Book Review: Destined For Doon

Destined for Doon (Doon, #2)Authors: Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon
Publication Date: September 2, 2014
Publisher: Blink
Series: Doon # 2

The second book in the popular new Doon YA series that takes on a classic story, Brigadoon, and spins it in a new way to give readers a fresh, modern experience.

In this sequel to Doon, Kenna Reid realizes she made a horrible mistake-choosing to follow her dreams of Broadway instead of staying in the enchanted land of Doon. Worse, she's received proof she and Duncan are meant to be, along with torturous visions of the prince she left behind. So when Duncan shows up and informs Kenna that Doon needs her, she doesn't need to think twice. But even if Kenna can save the enchanted kingdom, her happily ever after may still be in peril.

The Doon novels are a part of Blink, HarperCollins Christian Publishing's new YA imprint that delivers empowering and heartening literature while maintaining a tradition of imaginative and impactful storytelling.

If I could help Vee save his kingdom maybe he would see me as someone worthy of a second chance.

Fairy tales made it look so easy. The girl finds her prince, they fall in love, a crown is placed on her head, and voila! A new queen is born!

However, there was a fine line between leadership and conformity, and some antiquated traditions were meant to be broken.

Ribbons of rose and tangerine streaked through the lightening sky, reminding me that I had no business being up at the butt crack of dawn for the second morning in a row.

The second book in this series was much easier to get into than the first, not implying that the first book was not fabulous, because I greatly enjoyed it, but this book captivated me right away and the story took off like a rocket into space. The kingdom of Doon welcomes readers back triumphantly and writers, Langdon and Carey, are back with beautiful writing and captivating storytelling abilities. The story was another enjoyable trip down fairy tale lane. The alternating points of view between Mackenna and Veronica are back in this next installment. Even though they are best friends, their personalities differ so much.

At the end of the last book, the girls had separated and hoped to follow their own paths. I was not completely happy with this choice and I am glad to see that they were reunited in this book. However, life for the girls is not a bowl of ice cream with cherries on top. Once they reach Doon again, they find that the land is in complete turmoil and an evil witch is working hard to overtake it. Vee and Kenna are facing their own demons in their lives, but soon realize how quickly they must learn to work together again.

The land of Doon is full of magic, mystery, romance, and adventure and no matter how old you all of these things never get old. I recommend reading the first book in this series before you dive into this one, and I also feel that you should know that this book ends with a huge cliffhanger. I am dying to find out when the next book releases. I am just not sure how much longer I can wait!
