Blog Tour, Guest Post, & Giveaway: Rebel Belle

Rebel BelleAuthor: Rachel Hawkins
Publication Date: April 8, 2014
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Series: Rebel Belle # 1

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him--and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.

Looking back, none of this would have happened if I’d brought lip gloss the night of the Homecoming Dance.

Now, this is when it really gets weird. I know, I know, dead janitor in disguise, killer history teacher, how much weirder could it get?

But just as I reached for the deadbolt, he reached out and grabbed my ankle, pulling me down so hard that I landed on my butt with a shriek.
Harper Price is the epitome of the perfect southern belle. She was born to be a debutante wearing the Homecoming tiara. On the night of the Homecoming dance, and the night Harper expects to win the title of Homecoming Queen, her life drastically changes in the girls bathroom right before she makes her grand entrance. Her destiny changes drastically and Harper finds out that she has been given the powers of a Paladin, powers that include super strength, agility, and extreme fighting instincts. Harper’s life goes from golden girl to superhero in ten seconds flat. This book is full of action and some intense girl power. Harper Price makes southern girls like me very proud!

The story and plotline were both paced very well, and I was very pleased with the character development. I believe that this is going to be a series. I am very excited to see more of Harper Price. She is an extremely likeable character, even though it feels like everything she touches turn to gold. The story was slower at times, but this is not a bad thing because Rachel Hawkins uses this to build Harper’s world and her character more effectively!

Below you will find a blog post written by the author, Rachel Hawkins, in the voice of Harper as she reviews a major beauty project. I really enjoyed her voice and I hope you will too. You will also find a giveaway below, kindly provided by the publishers at Putnam Juvenile! The giveaway is for the United States only and the winner will receive a hardcopy version of Rebel Belle as well as the beauty product that Harper reviews in the blog post. That product would be a can of Big Sexy Hairspray! I hope you all enjoy Harper’s voice; I know I did!

Harper’s Guest Post:

So let's talk Southern Girls and Big Hair. I know it's a total cliché, all that, "the higher the hair, the closer to God" stuff, but trust me, if you go into a Southern girl's bathroom, chances are very high she has a set of hot rollers. Now, I'm not saying big hair is a go-to all the time- I can wield a straightening iron with the best of them-but there are certain occasions where Big Hair is called for. And when you need to ratchet your do up to the sky- maybe to hold up your veil or your tiara- you're going to want some What A Tease: Backcomb in a Bottle. Spritz a little of this stuff on your roots before you put your hair in rollers, and I promise you, when you take those rollers out, you will have the Biggest of Big Hair. If you want to get really intense with it, once your hair is in the rollers, spray some Backcomb in a Bottle over your entire head. But be warned- that might take you to Big Hair: Level Dolly Parton.

Again, this giveaway is for the United States only and is for a hardcopy edition of Rebel Belle as well as a sample of Big Sexy Hair, which Harper covers in her guest post! This giveaway ends Wednesday, April 23rd!

  3. I've been this cover a lot lately. I always thought it was a chick lit type, but turns out it's more of a fantasy fiction type. Hmmm. Favorite Southern Fiction? Um. I don't really know. Yeah. I'm the kind of reader who never remembers what she reads after a while. Much less, which books I've read that took place in the South. Anyways, great review!

  4. The first thing that pops to mind for me would be the The Southern Vampire Mysteries (Sookie Stackhouse) by Charlaine Harris. I really have enjoyed the first several books. Although I haven't finished the series yet, been putting it off.
I have heard good things about this book and I am looking forward to reading it. I like your review!
