Home Run Blog Tour: Stealing Parker

Author: Miranda Kenneally
Publication Date: October 1, 2012
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Series: Catching Jordan # 2

Red-hot author Miranda Kenneally hits one out of the park in this return to Catching Jordan's Hundred Oaks High.

After her family's scandal rocks their conservative small town, 17-year-old Parker Shelton goes overboard trying to prove that she won't turn out like her mother: a lesbian. The all-star third-baseman quits the softball team, drops 20 pounds and starts making out with guys--a lot. But hitting on the hot new assistant baseball coach might be taking it a step too far...especially when he starts flirting back.

I was super duper excited to be a part of the Home Run Blog Tour! I have not read the first book in Miranda Kenneally’s, Catching Jordan Series, but after reading this one I think I may just have to! I played softball all through high school and I love watching baseball so I was really into book. On top of being a bibliophile, I was also a jock! I could really relate to this book because every girl experiences the same kinds of emotions as far as fitting in and trying not to stand out. I loved the dedication in the beginning of the book, it says, “for all the girls struggling to find their place.”

OMG! I loved this book. It was so read and personable and captured the thoughts of a moody teenage girl perfectly! Parker is a girl who is dealing with some major issues and she tries to suppress them in the most subtle fashion. Her mother left, her brother has a drug problem, and her dad is constantly pushing church and prayer on her. Parker just tries to fit in, but can’t do that for the sake of standing out. She is independent and mostly importantly she is her own person. I love her for her sense of individuality and even though she is often misunderstood by those around her! Parker has a lot going on, but she doesn’t come off as a whiny teenager. She deals with everything in her own way and I admire her for being so brave!

Okay, so I just have to address this whole issue of Parker having a crush on a twenty-three year old! I was not shocked by this at all. What I was shocked with was Brian Hoffman, the new boy’s baseball coach. I do not want to get into the juicy details but I will tell you that I felt like I was watching a popular TV sitcom; I was glued to the pages and could not stop reading. She connects easily with Brian and finds herself being attracted to him, and from the sounds of it what girl wouldn’t be?!

There is a love triangle in this book! Yes, I know they sometimes get old and boring, but not in this case! I loved the boys and how most of them seemed to be crazy about Parker. Parker was just so different from other girls and she seemed to be better friends with the guys than girls her own age. About halfway through the book, the second guy in the love triangle starts to unfold, but I don’t want to give that away either. I loved it! That’s all I can say about it. I will tell you that I liked the second guy better than the first, hands down. I want to tell you all so much, but you just have to pick up a copy of the book.

I loved everything about this book and I am praying that there will be more added to this series. I want to give a big thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for providing me with a copy of this book and for including me in the tour!! Now hurry up, go out, and buy your copy now!!
