Release Day Review: Royal Wedding

Royal Wedding (The Princess Diaries, #11)Author: Meg Cabot
Publication Date: June 2, 2015
Publisher: William Morrow & Company
Series: The Princess Diaries #11

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Princess Diaries series, comes the very first adult installment, which follows Princess Mia and her Prince Charming as they plan their fairy tale wedding--but a few poisoned apples could turn this happily-ever-after into a royal nightmare.

For Princess Mia, the past five years since college graduation have been a whirlwind of activity, what with living in New York City, running her new teen community center, being madly in love, and attending royal engagements. And speaking of engagements. Mia's gorgeous longtime boyfriend Michael managed to clear both their schedules just long enough for an exotic (and very private) Caribbean island interlude where he popped the question! Of course Mia didn't need to consult her diary to know that her answer was a royal oui.

But now Mia has a scandal of majestic proportions to contend with: Her grandmother's leaked "fake" wedding plans to the press that could cause even normally calm Michael to become a runaway groom. Worse, a scheming politico is trying to force Mia's father from the throne, all because of a royal secret that could leave Genovia without a monarch. Can Mia prove to everyone--especially herself--that she's not only ready to wed, but ready to rule as well?

Honestly what good is owning a castle if the person you love doesn’t want to share it with you?

I can’t even count the number of guys I dated after I found out I was a princess who turned out to only be interested in in me for my tiara.

“No, really. People will believe me, because I have a reputation for being a klutz, but I’m also a princess, and princesses never lie.

Opening this beautiful book brought back so many wonderful memories straight from my childhood! Meg Cabot has done it again, ladies and gentlemen! The Princess Diaries was one of the first series that I started reading as a child and I followed them all the way up until this latest installment. We pick up with Mia’s life, still as the Princess of Genovia, still in love with Michael, and still trying to please her grandmother. Mia is newly engaged and finds out another surprise about her family life on the way – this is the tidbit of information that I cannot spoil for you! I have always loved books that are told in the format of a diary. I have always felt that it allows the reader to get closer to the protagonist and really get to know their character. Mia has been such a good friend to so many girls for so many years for exactly the same reason.

The humor in this book is beyond words. Cabot has such a fascinating way of allowing readers to picture all the funny scenes that she describes through Mia’s eyes. As I mentioned before, Mia writes in diary form, but not only that she also includes text messages shared between Mia and Michael and some of her very best friends like Lilly, Michael’s sister. All of my favorite characters from the series made a debut in this book and it only added to my nostalgia! I only hope that Meg Cabot decides to add more to this series, especially since a huge bit of information was discovered in this book! All I can say is go out and pick up your copy today.
